Inside Sinewave’s B Corp Recertification – Leading the Industry to a Better Future

From the outside, the B Corp accreditation can seem like a stamp of approval for businesses maintaining ethical and sustainable standards. However, the amount of work that goes into not only earning accreditation but also improving the overall B Impact Score is enormous.

In perspective, most businesses will average a B Impact score of 50, but a passing score from B Lab is almost double that at 80. In 2022, we clocked in at a strong 89.8 for our debut B Corp certification, becoming the UK's first and only B Corp ICP.

Fast forward to February 2026, and we’ve received a recertification score with an almost 10-point increase. At 99.3, our B Impact score now sits among some of the world’s best, but that won’t stop us from striving to increase our score with each year that passes.

In the spirit of Ethics & Transparency, we’re breaking down over 18 months of hard work to recertify, in service of over a decade’s commitment to sustainability that we keep delivering on year on year.

Each section is scored differently using B Lab’s unique grading system. Not all scores are weighted equally; each category is graded individually based on a range of questions, allowing businesses to continually strive for new levels of impact across each area.

Governance 19.3

Evaluates a company's overall mission, engagement around its social/environmental impact, ethics, and transparency.

Company Summer Standown 2025

  • Social & environmental impact is the underpinning of how our business operates. We’ve committed to positive influence on the planet, and we’re constantly striving to deliver on our promises to be a power for good.

These promises include every member of staff having our environmental mission statement woven into their job descriptions, tracking our impact metrics through Sinewave Switch, and reducing our carbon footprint by 10% year on year.

  • We voluntarily share all environmental programs, performance scorecards, indicators and outcomes, validated by third-party standards such as the B Impact Assessment.

We achieve this through monthly townhalls, toolbox talks and company stand downs, continually reviewing our efforts towards environmental and ethical targets, ensuring our business goals align with our sustainability ones.

  • We’ve signed a contract comitting to social and environmental impact. Without it, we couldn’t have grown in the way we have to date. Sustainability drives our future ambitions and will always be intertwined with the way we work.

Workers 30.8

Evaluates a company’s contributions to its employees’ financial security, health & safety, wellness, career development, and engagement & satisfaction.

  • We ensure our team are compensated fairly & recognised for their value to the business in the form of pension schemes & other financial incentives.

Our Financial Benefits Comittee ensure our team are fairly compensated and the benefits on offer to staff at Sinewave are always improving.

We ensure our team receive Disability coverage or accident insurance, Life insurance, Private dental insurance, Private supplemental health insurance and Private optical care. This extends to part-time workers to promote well-being for every member of Team Sinewave.

  • Safety is vital to us. It’s a core value, its front and centre in all of our internal communications, and we make a practice of educating every member of staff, both in the field, at the office and remotely, on how to be safe at work.

Private medical insurance extends to spouses and family members, ensuring physical and mental safety extends throughout each team member’s life.

  • We believe in our people, giving them the tools to grow and learn, which benefits us in turn. From our extensive onboarding process to ongoing training and internal promotions, we keep our ethos of continuous improvement front and centre in each team member’s role. Our assistance extends to non-career-specific and life-skill training as well as cross-skills training for staff to upskill in roles that could see them transition across the business.

First aid and mental health first aid training contribute to a holistic range of avenues for staff to upskill. Career development extends from grassroots to our leadership, ensuring everyone can learn and grow at Sinewave.

  • Recording, examining and acting upon feedback is an essential driver of our value to be what’s next. We run Employee Satisfaction (eNPS) surveys on a quaterly basis and maintain an extremely high bar for what we consider a successful score.

All of this feeds into our company strategy to ensure we’re working to continually improve life at Sinewave.

Community 21.7

Evaluates a company’s engagement with and impact on the communities in which it operates, hires from, and sources from.

  • We’re committed to fostering and maintaining a diverse team in service of the best possible environment to produce great work from a range of perspectives. We review all applications impartially, ensuring descisions are made solely on merit, skills and potential.

But we’re always looking to do more. We’re listening and learning, striving to understand what diversity means to our team and what more we can do to create a more inclusive environment.

  • With our HQ in Swindon and projects nationwide, Sinewave contributes to the local and national economy through our 100+ employees and the projects we play a vital role in energising.

Through our procurement strategy we aim to support locally, ethically and UK sourced wherever possible. We always default to choosing local procurement over leveraging mejor digital chains that are less sustainable & ethical.

  • We match all charitable donations raised by our team. On Sinewave’s 10th birthday, we decided to choose two charities that we would commit to supporting. We chose a local project, The Kelly Foundation and a national one, The Lighthouse Charity. Both focus their funding and support on those impacted by mental health challenges.

This extends beyond financial donations; we donate our time and expertise through employee community days. Our leadership team regularly donate their time in mentorship, both through academic outreach & mentioring small businesses. We’re part of the Swindon Old Town Committee, dedicated to the development of Swindon’s economy.

But this sentiment of civic engagement is nationwide, with our team supporting good causes like their local scouts, the Cotswold Sailing Club, and other endeavours across the UK.

  • We work with our suppliers to understand their social and environmental impact. We deliberately refer to subcontractors as partners and require that they work under Sinewave’s sustainable and ethical practices during any collaboration.

Using Sinewave Switch, we’ve been able to measure the environmental impact of each completed project and work to completely offset all emissions.

We provide our partners with this breakdown per-project, along with advice on how they can improve their sustainability measures and practices for future work.

Environment 23.0
Evaluates a company’s overall environmental management practices as well as its impact on the air, climate, water, land, and biodiversity.

  • We’re minimising our environmental impact through energy efficiency improvements, waste reduction programs and an extensive environmentally preferable purchasing (EPP) policy that we circulate company-wide.

  • We’re constantly monitoring our energy consumption and have set absolute reduction targets that will stay in place, regardless of company growth – goals that we’ve met consistently during the three year period leading up to our recertification.

We regularly monitor and record emissions and have set specific reduction targets relating to our previous performance.

As our team grows, so does our energy consumption. We’re always looking for ways to be smarter when it comes to reducing our consumption.

  • We regularly monitor our water consumption and utilise low-flow faucets, taps, toilets and urinals across all our sites and at HQ.

There’s more to be done. Given we are limited by HQ being a rented building, we’re looking at how we can improve our efforts on-site. Water harvesting, setting reduction targets with partners throughout the supply chain. We’re setting our sights on how we can influence others.

  • We regularly monitor and record waste production and have set specific reduction targets relative to previous performance, including 5% reduction of waste to landfill from a baseline year.

Our industry leading waste managment reflects in our score. We’re now setting our sights on how we can postively impact on biodiversity, ensuring that environmentally and recyclable options are not just used internally but by our partners too.

We have specific procedures for recycling paper, cardboard, plastic, glass & metal, along with composting and food.

Sinewave Forest, saplings planted

  • Scoring 4.4 out of a possible 4.9, we’re now set on hitting an even higher score, giving our customers the gold-standard service.

We have formal quality control and customer feedback mechanisms we utilise across all projects. We’re stringent with client data, practice ethical marketing and assess all of these processes regularly to ensure we’re setting the standard.

We listen to customer feedback, which we circulate internally to ensure we’re always doing more and better for the people we work with.

The proof is in our litany of up-to-date third-party certificates and accreditations, including iso accreditation at 9001 & UKAS accredited.

Looking Forward, Together

This report displays our commitment to not just Sinewave’s sustainable future, but that of the industry & beyond. We hope that many insights can be gleaned from our transparent approach.

In the spirit of continuous improvement, we are always looking for ways to level up.

B Corp is a global stamp of approval, but there is so much more that B Corp doesn’t measure against that we’re doing.

“Sinewave is proof that you can remain true to purpose, deliver sustainably, whilst achieving rapid company growth.

The growth is important for long-term value creation. Using knowledge, network, and experience in the sector, we are able to positively influence those around us. Be that hosting Green forums for local business and government authorities to champion more sustainable business practices, or championing supplier and contractor partner days to ensure safety and sustainability learnings are shared outside of Sinewave. The growth achieved has been used as a power for good.

The scale of stakeholder impact can be as large as a council or governing body, or as personal as a college student seeking advice on how to enter the sector, a Sinewave team member wanting to launch a menopause initiative, or a local sailing club seeking support in energising an electric gate for those less able-bodied to access the lake.

These activities and achievements would not be possible without our amazing team, always working with sustainability in mind - and staying true to the company's mission of Powering Sustainable futures.”
